With the aid of her husband–guitarist Miten and master bansuri flautist Manose, the beloved kirtan singer Deva Premal has made Password into something truly special. "Mantras are the magical passwords that transform the mundane into the sacred," Premal writes, explaining the origin of the title, and the album itself functions as just this sort of key, with her beautiful, gentle, healing voice unlocking all sorts of inner gifts.
This album would make the sort of gift where the receiver has no idea what it is at first, only to call you in the middle of the night a week later, rapturous and serene and bubbling over with gratitude once the album's joyful secret has been unlocked by giving the songs enough attention. The code is in every beat, every note of the flute, every word in the kirtans, and every throb in Premal's voice....
Password is aptly named for it's like a magic ticket that brings you through blissful golden skyways until you're right by Deva Premal's side, exploring the glories and beauty of the every day with new eyes, new ears, and a timeless heart.

As usual, the hugely talented Deva Premal (vocals, tanpura. keyboards), joined by Miten (guitar, vocals) and Manose (bansuri flute, vocals), doesn't disappoint on Password. Her voice sings these mantras with almost unearthly beauty, peace, and grace. Premal, Miten and Manose are joined by 18 (!) guest artists on the CD. The music on Password reflects all their combined talents at uniting the traditional with the contemporary, from the gently swaying jazziness of Shyam to the quasi-lounge feel of Narasimha to the soft sensuality of Nandana Gopala. Production and engineering are ridiculously perfect - what a great mixing job when heard on headphones!

I can listen to Password over and over again. The combination of Deva, Miten and Manose is total magic and has the power to inspire feelings so deeply personal they are transcendent. This collection is absolutely wonderful.

I have other CDs from Deva Premal, I love all of them, but there is something about this. It is so beautiful, it makes you feel as a reborn, full of energy, light and very grateful for being alive. Thank you very much Deva Premal.
