Two of the most beloved voices in contemporary sacred and devotional music, Deva Premal and Ajeet, come together for the first time on Yemaya (Reimagined), a heartfelt new collaboration celebrating the Yoruba ocean goddess Yemaya.
The reinterpretation was inspired by Deva’s producer and longtime collaborator Joby Baker and his self-designed five-string instrument, the “arbutar”, which opened a new creative direction for the chant.
Recorded together in person in a relaxed, intuitive session at Deva’s home, the collaboration unfolded naturally and without strict planning, resulting in a flowing, intimate performance that honours the original chant while bringing together both artists’ voices in a shared expression of connection and devotion.
